A key member of George Mason’s 2006 Final Four squad will return to lead the program.
Tony Skinn, an assistant coach at Maryland, is the newest Patriots head coach, the school announced Thursday. He replaces Kim English, who accepted the same position at Providence.
“It's an unbelievable feeling to step back on campus,” Skinn said in a statement. “I've had some of my greatest memories here and I'm looking forward to making new ones with our fans and our community. Our best days are ahead! Mason Nation, I missed you and I am honored to represent you."
Skinn, 40, spent this season as an assistant coach under Kevin Willard at Maryland, helping the Terrapins advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Previously, Skinn served under head coaches at Ohio State, Seton Hall and Louisiana Tech. Before joining the collegiate coaching ranks, he spent three seasons working with the Nike Takeover Team AAU program.
As a student-athlete, Skinn averaged 11.6 points and 25.7 minutes per game from 2003-06. Following his collegiate career, he spent six seasons playing professionally in Europe.
